The Korean Language Course at Chungnam National University in Daejeon, South Korea is a structured program run by the Language Education Center (CLEC) designed for international learners who want to build practical Korean language skills and cultural understanding. The program offers multiple levels of instruction (typically Levels 1–6) that guide students from beginner basics — learning Hangul (Korean alphabet), pronunciation, and simple conversation — to advanced competency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, including preparation for academic use and deeper engagement with Korean society. Each level is typically structured around 10-week terms with around 200 hours of instruction per term, and students are placed into the appropriate class through a placement test before the term begins. In addition to language classes, the program includes cultural activities and experiences (such as traditional music, food preparation, field trips, and cultural events) to enrich students’ understanding of Korea beyond the classroom. CLEC also administers its own Korean proficiency test that can be used for graduate program applications at CNU, and the course plays an important role in cultural exchange on campus.
