Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in filling out prescription medication to customers. They will obtain the necessary information to fill out a prescription, and maintain that information for future use. They will work with patients or insurance companies to receive payments. A Pharmacy technician will keep track of inventory levels and alert the pharmacist when they are low. A pharmacy technician must work under the supervision of a pharmacist and cannot work otherwise.
The Santa Ana College Pharmacy Technology program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and has even received recommendation. The program at SAC will prepare students to become officially licensed as a pharmacy technician by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
