Program Description

  • The Master of Arts degree program is designed to introduce educators and professionals with a wide variety of interests to the study of philosophy and education.
  • In addition to the required 12 points in Philosophy and Education courses, students may use their electives to develop an area of educational interest (e.g., educational policy, curriculum and teaching, developmental psychology, etc.) and to develop an area of philosophical interest (e.g., ethics, social philosophy, philosophical anthropology, etc.).

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

  • Teachers College is a graduate school. To be eligible for admission to any/all programs, applicants must hold, or be in the process of obtaining, a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution as recognized by the US Department of Education. International applicants must hold, or be in the process of obtaining, the equivalent of a U.S. baccalaureate degree.
  • 650 or higher on either the Critical Reasoning or Writing sections of the SAT before March 2016.
  • 700 or higher on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section of the redesigned SAT.
  • 29 or higher on the English or Reading sections of the ACT.
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).A minimum score of 600 (paper-based test) or 100 (Internet-based test) is necessary for admission to Columbia. Your score must be reported directly to Columbia by the testing service, using report code 2116.
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System).A minimum score of 7.0 is necessary for admission to Columbia. Your score must be reported directly to Columbia Undergraduate Admissions.
  • DET (Duolingo English Test).A minimum score of 75 is necessary for admission to Columbia. Your score must be reported directly to Columbia Undergraduate Admissions.
