Biomedical engineering (BME) is a cutting-edge interdisciplineamong already-established scientific and engineering fields that bridges technology and medicine. BME is the application of principles of engineering, physics and technology to develop novel instrumentation for the use of human healthcare. It is now the most rapidly growing of all engineering disciplines from a global perspective and playing an irreplaceable role in the enhancement of human lifespan and its quality. Being one of the universities which initially set up the major of BME in China, Central South University (CSU) established BME undergraduate program in 1986 and was qualified to confer a master's degree later in the same year. At present, the BME department at CSU consists of 12 full-time faculty members including 3 professors and 8 associate professors, and there are also 5 industry mentors coming from medical device enterprises, e.g., Mindray and Edan. So far, we have established 1 national laboratory, 2 provincial/ministerial laboratories, 5 university-level laboratories, 2 school-enterprise joint-training bases, and 1 enterprise joint production transformation base. We currently confer 2 graduate degree programs, such as biomedical engineering & technology (Master of Science, Ph.D.) and electronic information (Master of Engineering). In our team, domestic and international leading interdisciplinary research projects are being conducted with distinct characteristics including but not limited to photoacoustic imaging, biological microfluidic chip, magnetic biosensor, nanopore sequencing technology and artifical intelligence for medical big-data.
NOTE: The university may have additional program-specific eligibility requirements. It is recommended to verify these on the official university website.
