Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications (CQUPT) is one of the key universities in the field of postal and telecommunications established and developed by the state. It is a high-level university jointly constructed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Chongqing Municipality, characterized by its distinctive features and outstanding advantages, and wielding significant influence in the field of information and communication. The university originated in 1950, when a training course for postal personnel was established on the site of the former General Post Office of the Ministry of Communications during the War of Resistance Against Japan. Based on this, it successively established the Southwest Branch of Posts and Telecommunications, Chongqing Posts and Telecommunications School, and Chongqing Telecommunications School. In 1959, the State Council officially approved the establishment of Chongqing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications, and undergraduate education began. In 1965, it became one of the ten universities in Sichuan Province that could enroll master's students. In 1970, it was reorganized into Factory 529 of the General Telecommunications Bureau, and in 1973, it was reorganized into the Ninth Research Institute of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. It resumed its academic activities in 1980. In 2000, it was transferred from the former Ministry of Information Industry to the administration of Chongqing Municipality, implementing joint construction by the ministry and the city. In 2006, it was renamed Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications. In 2013, it was approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution. In recent years, the school has seized the historical opportunities presented by the Western Development Strategy, the Chongqing Construction Strategy, and the rapid development of the information industry, focusing on the industry, serving the local community, strengthening its infrastructure, and accelerating its development.
