Electronic and Information Engineering has long played a fundamental role in undergirding innovations that improve life quality, economic growth, and solutions to social problems. It emerged in the late 19th century as a separated study field, which propelled and was responsive to the large-scale deployments of telegraphy and electrical lighting. Electronic and Information Engineering will continue to play a critical role in power and energy distribution, communications, and computation systems, even as the power-car-rying channels have been evolved from heavy metal cables to nanowires or optical fibers, the networks of communications have been evolved from wires to wireless to neurons, and the basic electrical switches have been evolved from vacuum tubes to transis-tors and carbon nanotubes. The essential techniques that connect societies as mobile phones, laptops, wireless communications, downloaded videos, light-emitting diodes, electronic displays, smart power grids, and rapidly evolving systems for monetary trans-actions, are all evidences of the impacts of innovations in electronic and information engineering.
