Students study the four fundamental areas of chemistry—organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry—alongside a broad range of elective topics such as medicinal chemistry, polymer chemistry, chemical biology, materials chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and environmental chemistry, reflecting both current research frontiers and societal needs. The curriculum encourages interdisciplinary learning by motivating students to explore related subjects like biology, physics, and engineering, especially in their first year.
The program combines rigorous theoretical coursework with practical laboratory training, research experience and innovation activities. SUSTech’s Chemistry Department maintains sophisticated instrumentation and actively involves undergraduates in research programs supervised by faculty, helping students develop critical thinking, creativity, experimental skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
SUSTech’s Chemistry faculty are internationally experienced and active researchers, and the department has achieved high recognition in global research metrics, with a strong presence in major international journals and ESI rankings.
