Students in the program study a wide range of core and applied subjects, including water pollution control, air quality management, solid waste treatment and recycling, ecological conservation, environmental monitoring, environmental quality assessment, environmental planning, and natural resources management. The curriculum builds on a solid foundation in mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, and geoscience, and integrates theory with hands-on practice, field studies, laboratory work, and engineering design projects.
A key aim of the program is to develop graduates who possess both scientific knowledge and practical engineering skills, enabling them to analyze environmental systems, design effective solutions, and apply modern technologies to real-world environmental problems. The training also emphasizes understanding environmental policies, standards, and sustainability principles, preparing students for careers in environmental consulting, pollution control engineering, government and regulatory agencies, natural resource management, research institutions, and international organizations, as well as for graduate study in environmental science and engineering fields.
SUSTech’s Environmental Science and Engineering discipline is recognized for its strong research output and academic quality, holding high national and international rankings that reflect the program’s research strength in areas such as water resources, environmental science, and atmospheric studies.
