The Teaching and Research Section of Foreign Languages, ZJU was renamed the Department of Linguistics in 1984 and then renamed the Department of Foreign Languages in 1988. In 1990, a major in linguistics and applied linguistics in foreign languages was set up and started to recruit postgraduate students.
Prof. LIU Haitao is academician of Akademio de Esperanto AE and China’s most cited researcher by Elsevier. He serves as associate editor for Journal of Quantitative Linguistics and is on the editorial board of academic journals related to interlinguistics. Being a Chinese scholar who has the most linguistic papers collected by WOS core libraries (SSCI, A&HCI, SCI) in the last ten years, his research priority is to find structural patterns and evolutionary rules of human language from real corpora.
Prof. HE Lianzhen has been selected for the Ministry of Education’s New Century Talent Supporting Project and the State Class Persons of National Talents Engineering initiatives. She won The Second Outstanding Teacher of Institute of Higher Learning in awards hosted by the Ministry of Education, and served as the vice chairman of the College English Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education twice in succession. With language testing and applied linguistics as her research priorities, her papers have been published in leading academic journals at home and abroad including Foreign Language Teaching and Research, Modern Foreign Languages and Language Testing. Serving as editorial board member of Search Journals like SSC and A&HCI for many years, she was invited to be a member of the TOFEL Expert Committee hosted by the Educational Testing Service.
