Molecular and medical biotechnology is a field with enormous potential for the development of new solutions aimed at human health. Through the understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of pathologies, the biotechnological method allows to contribute to the development of drugs, vaccines, therapies and diagnostic tests.
The course trains experts in the field of molecular and cellular biotechnology able to conduct analysis, research and development activities, with particular reference to the biomedical sector, through experimental and computational approaches. These skills are achieved through the study of disciplines in the field of biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, genomics and diagnostics, pathology and pharmacology, and computational biology. The course provides knowledge on the structure, function and analysis of biological macromolecules and the cellular processes in which they intervene. In support of traditional teaching, the course includes the use of experimental teaching tools such as exercises, laboratory activities and discussion of scientific publications. The format is designed to provide students with technical skills in biotechnology research and at the same time highlight a connection between laboratory research and the impact on human health. The course includes a single training path. However, the organization in alternative courses and an adequate number of elective credits offer the possibility of defining a personalized study plan.
