This integrated master's and doctoral program provides a solid interdisciplinary education in human security engineering — the core field — along with its four related fields: urban governance, urban infrastructure management, health risk management, and disaster risk management. Through the study of these interconnected topics, students develop the ability to integrate and apply their knowledge to ensure urban human security as researchers or engineers while also contributing to academic advancements in related fields.

The course is designed to cultivate the following qualities in academics: creativity, or the ability to transcend the boundaries of existing specialized fields; internationality, or the capacity to present and debate research in English, engage in education and research activities overseas, and build an international professional network; and independence, or the skills to plan research, lead educational and research activities, secure research funding, and address real-world challenges.

To support these objectives, the course offers core content in English and provides opportunities for overseas field internships.

Students are subject to the program's own completion requirements, which are separate from those of their respective departments. Upon satisfying these requirements, they will be certified as graduates of this course and awarded a special certificate in addition to their degree.

The course options include a doctoral program and a five-year integrated master’s-doctoral program (April or October admission). In the latter, progression to the doctoral phrase requires passing an entrance examination.
