The Master’s in Physics and Earth Sciences at University of the Ryukyus’ Graduate School of Engineering and Science (Science Course) is a two-year full-time Master of Science program that prepares students for advanced research and professional activities in both fundamental physics and the geosciences. This program focuses on interdisciplinary study and research spanning core areas such as theoretical and experimental physics (e.g., mathematical physics, condensed matter physics, solid state physics) and Earth science fields (e.g., subduction-zone magmatism, tectonics, marine geology, oceanography, atmospheric and oceanic physics, meteorology, seismology and geomorphology), allowing students to explore both the physical laws governing natural phenomena and the complex processes shaping the Earth’s interior, surface and environment. Students complete advanced coursework and engage in supervised research projects tailored to their interests, culminating in a master’s thesis that contributes to scientific understanding in their chosen domain. The program emphasizes critical thinking, rigorous scientific methodology, and the ability to conduct independent research, preparing graduates for further doctoral study or careers in research institutions, academia, industry, and environmental or geoscience-related sectors.
