Moscow Aviation Institute is an engineering research university in Moscow, Russia. It is designated a National Research University. Since its inception the institute has been spearheading advances in aerospace technology both within Russia and worldwide. The university has placed emphasis on laboratory instruction in applied science and engineering, specific to the demands of aerospace industry.
During World War II part of the university was evacuated to Almaty, Kazakhstan. Staffs and students continued to work on research and wartime production throughout the war. During the Post-War period, the university expanded and assimilated new technologies during the Jet age. Research conducted in the university contributed to heralding the space age.

MAI campus includes 9 dormitory buildings with a total number of 7020 beds. The area of the dormitories is 79,541 sq. m. The dormitory buildings are equipped with laundry rooms, cooking facilities, bicycle storage rooms, etc. offering a comfort stay for students. Wi-Fi internet access is free.
Bilateral dormitory agreements and additional services agreements are concluded between the students living in the dormitory and MAI Campus. Student self-government and student public organizations assist the work of Campus. Issues with settlement of international students are solved at the International Department. Provision of dormitory accommodation at MAI campus is carried out in accordance with the "Regulations on MAI Campus", approved by the Order of the rector from March 25, 2015 No. 138

Joint projects between MAI and its partners open up career opportunities for its graduates. The total volume of the University’s contracts for scientific research amounts to 32 million dollars annually. All students are involved in the R&D work carried out in the leading laboratories and research centers of the University.
