The Department of English Language & Literature was established in 1953. The students of this program are expected to build English language competency as well as understanding the tradisons and trends of English and American literature by analyzing and critiquing works by English / American writers. The major courses of the department require students to acquire knowledge of comprehensive linguistic theories, including general linguistic theory and contemporary one. Through the programs of study, the students can prepare for various careers such as teachers, writers, official interpeters, and the like.
