The Department of Statistics at Chonbuk National University currently (2013) has 6 faculty members and more than 200 undergraduate and graduate students, We offer M.S. and Ph.D. programs as well as an undergraduate major in Statistics.

The mission of the Department of Statistics is to produce experts in information exploration and data analysis through converging statistics and information technology. Thanks to a major data explosion, statistics is getting a lot of attention in the scientific and popular media.

Since 1993 over 1000 students have been graduated. A degree in Statistics opens up a broad range of employment opportunities. The job market for statisticians continues to be strong. The Graduates of our Department work in many diverse areas of industry and government, such as government agencies (e.g. National Statistical Office, the Ministry of Labor), business and industry (e.g. Korean Airlines, Hyundai Motor Company, Samsung SDS), at financial institutions such as banks and insurance companies (e.g. Shinhan Bank, Mirae Asset). Every year, the department invites alumni for the introduction of careers in statistics and offers students the opportunity to build the solid relationship with alumni and explore careers.
