The academic program of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Jeonbuk National University is focused on understanding physical, chemical and biological processes that have shaped and are constantly changing our Earth by applying basic and interdisciplinary principles of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Students in our department have a chance to learn a wide variety of processes taking place in the interior and on the surface of our planet, from mountain building to earthquake generation, from identification to exploration and development of energy and mineral resources, and from global climate change to microbial processes that affect our environment. The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is dedicated to educating next generation of experts who will be frontiers in major research and educational institutions, and performing research on many different aspects of environmental system of the Earth, which will enhance our overall understanding on prediction of environmental changes and prevention of natural and artificial hazards in the nature.
