In 1983, Halmstad University was recognised as an independent institution. At that time, it had a few hundred students and a staff of 40 people. Currently, the University has about 12,000 students and 600 employees. It offers approximately 50 degree programmes and over 200 courses at different levels.

The course is a placement in a research project at a university or research institute. This placement can also be undertaken in connection with an organisation's research and development work. The course concludes with a reflection seminar where students share and reflect upon their experience(s).
