A multi-million-pound investment programme has seen modern and improved student accommodation at our Edinburgh campus. We involved our students in the process of design, gathering their views and opinions to ensure the residences would be tailored to their needs and priorities.
We have 2,000 residential places available at our Edinburgh campus, with a range of room types and prices.
Once you hold a Conditional Firm or an Unconditional Firm offer to study at Heriot-Watt University, you can apply for accommodation. You will be asked to select your first and second preference of accommodation type when making your application. You will be placed in accommodation with other new 1st years or direct entry students.
Students are available to undertake their industry placements in the September of their second year of the programme. Placements will last for up to 6 months.. They will then return to full-time study at Heriot-Watt University to complete their dissertation project.
We expect all of our industrial placement students to be paid a Living Wage where possible in line with UK employment standards. No fee is payable to the University for arranging the placement, and we will provide support to the employer throughout the placement.
Heriot-Watt University is the eighth oldest higher education institution in the UK and originated as the School of Arts of Edinburgh, the world’s first mechanics institute, in 1821. In 1966 it became a university by Royal Charter. More than a third of Heriot-Watt’s 7,000 Edinburgh campus students are from outside the UK and this international focus is also demonstrated by the 10,000 students from 150 different countries worldwide studying on its international programmes.
The University boasts multiple campuses, with three in Scotland, and one each in Malaysia and Dubai. Heriot-Watt won an award from the Scottish Council of Development and Industry because of its international focus and it also performs well in physical sciences, mathematics, business and management, engineering and the built environment. It won the 'International University of the Year' 2018 award from Times Higher Education.
95% of Heriot-Watt first degree graduates were in employment or further study within six months of graduating and it is the number 1 university in Scotland for the highest paid salaries (Times Higher Education).
