BUFS consists of seven colleges, four graduate school programs, and nine research institutes. The language portion of the school is structured in three of the colleges: College of English, Japanese, and Chinese, College of Occidental Studies, and College of Oriental Studies.

The BUFS student dormitory can accommodate a total of 1,300 undergraduate, graduate and foreign students. The dormitory is located on the school compound, making it a convenient option. The rooms offered here are twin sharing. The dormitory has many facilities within the compound, including a convenience store, copy machine, laundry rooms that comes with ironing facilities, a canteen, gym, and seminar room.
Here at the Busan University of Foreign Studies, we have a vision for Korean education towards cultivating students who can create global business opportunities, while embracing the world based on pan-academic and multi-cultural knowledge. The university's core subject areas are centered in giving our students expertise in foreign languages, while at the same time gaining deep cultural understanding of the international community. In that regard, the BUFS focuses on educating students to acquire the systematic knowledge on foreign countries while providing open-mindedness so that they can actively adapt to foreign cultures. At the same time, the university offers students with the specialized and hands-on education to enable them to become qualified global citizens through gaining a international outlook and localized critical thinking.
As the Republic of Korea is rapidly advancing into globalization, in 1997 the ministry of education selected the BUFS to be supported towards the national goal of developing work forces enabled with international skills and expertise. This university endeavors to maintain the best levels of foreign language education based on the specialized faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and innovative researches. Founded on Christianity, the BUFS pursues caring social values, searching for creation of an all-inclusive society reaching out to the poor and isolated people, domestically and internationally. Towards this goal, our faculty, staff, and students understand the need to develop a deep respect for individual personalities and characteristics in the practical application of Christian love and education.
