The Mount Saint Vincent University is located in Nova Scotia, Canada. Established by the Sisters of Charity in 1873, it was one of the few higher education institutes providing education for women. By 1951, the university began offering degrees in Arts, Secretarial Science, Music, Home Economics, Library Science, Nursing, and Education. Today, it offers undergraduate, graduate as well as professional studies programs. These include gerontology, social studies, applied human nutrition, etc.

It has also established an international education center providing useful information to its international applicants. At present, the institute has over 4,000 students educating themselves and enjoying the vibrant campus life of Mount Saint Vincent University. 16% of international students from 50 countries who wished to Study in Canada are now a part of this institute.

Placement

Students who enroll in the Masters of Education program are provided with a placement option by the university. The department also holds an annual Job Search Event. In the first year, students are placed at Halifax Regional Centre for Education and another placement opportunity in the next year. B.Ed. students have a community placement option. The university has tied up with Red Cross, Pathways, Clean Nova Scotia, ACT, etc. organizations. The university also has an MSVU Career Services plan that helps students get placed.

Scholarships

  • The institute provides financial aid through internal funding like bursaries and scholarships in Canada for international students as well as student loans, and external financial aid.
  • International students qualify for most of this financial aid and are eligible for merit-based scholarships, awards, and prizes of merit, assistantships, and bursaries. Government student loans are not available to them.
  • Students can check if they are eligible for financial aid depending on the program they are applying for.
  • International applicants are also advised to get in touch with the International Education Centre who will provide information on the same.
  • Some scholarships offered by the university are
    • President’s Scholarships: To qualify the student must have a high scholarship average, as well as demonstrate a contribution to their school and/or community. The student must have a score of 80% or higher. The deadline for application is March 1.
    • Sister Frances Carmel Regan Memorial Scholarship: It is accessible to female students only. The scholarship is awarded annually to a female student entering Mount Saint Vincent University and enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program who is in financial need and who has displayed interest in the cause of humanity by her participation in the community.
    • Harvella Endowed Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded in September to a full-time student who is entering a Master of Arts or Master of Science degree program, and who has demonstrated academic excellence.
    • Nova Scotia Research and Innovation Graduate Scholarships: The scholarship is applicable to both domestic as well as international students. Full-time students entering a thesis-based program in September of each year are eligible to be considered. Entering GPA, letters of reference, and the statement of intent provided as part of a student’s application, along with program recommendation, will be used to select the recipients.
