Established in 1989, the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a public institution that focuses on research and learning. It was originally set up in 1849 as Brisbane School of Arts. It gained the university status under an Act passed in the year 1988. It has affiliations from the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) and the Australian Technology Network (ATN). QUT is a chief member of Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners. QUT conducts education programmes at three campuses - two in Brisbane and one in Canberra. The institute boasts of its world-class infrastructure and avant-garde academic, recreational and athletic facilities. Situated along the Brisbane River, the Gardens Point campus in Brisbane forms the main campus of the university. It houses business, law, science and engineering faculties, QUT Art Museum and Gardens Theatre. The campus features a number of cafes, restaurants and bars that provide healthy food and drinks. Other facilities on the campus include a gymnasium, swimming pool, cycle centre, pharmacy, aquatic centre and bookshops.

The Kelvin Grove campus in the city is home to the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, Creative Industries Precinct and QUT International College. The Roundhouse Theatre, an experimental black-box theatre, various artwork and exhibition spaces within the Creative Industries Precinct are open to the public. The university has a small campus in Canberra's suburb Deakin, where master’s programmes in business, operates on one floor in Equinox Business Park. QUT has three libraries housing an extensive collection of books, journals, documents and other publications that provide specialised support to students, researchers and academic staff. The university has the third most extensive collection of e-books and other digital resources of learning amongst the libraries in Australia and New Zealand.

Accomodation

  • Students can rent a room in a student residential complex, which usually includes a bed, study desk, some storage, and shared bathrooms, kitchens, and common rooms.
  • Students can rent a room in agent-operated student accommodation or find accommodation on their own by looking online. Usually, rent costs 150-300 AUD per week. A person could live alone or share accommodation with other people.
  • Students can also live in a homestay, where they will get a room and have the option of having meals provided by the family they live with.

  • University’s online service for employers, managed through QUT UniHub, allows employers to advertise jobs to students free of charge.
  • QUT hosts and participates in annual career fairs where a wide variety of employers can promote their brand and career opportunities and network with students.
  • It has a large number of partners in the field of research, workforce training and placement.
  • QUT supports industry and community partners working with students at all levels of study, from undergraduate to postgraduate, as well as offer opportunities to partner with highly talented research students.

Scholarships

  • The international students are offered around 70 scholarships by QUT, depending upon their type of program. These scholarships offered can cover up to 25% - 50% of tuition fees such as Computer Science Honours Scholarship, Information Systems Honours Scholarship, Chemistry, and Physics Honours Scholarships, etc.
  • Other Scholarships include QUT Excellence Scholarship, 2020 Graduating Students Scholarship, International Merit Scholarship, etc. The scholarships also cover up to 25% - 50% of tuition fees along with access to Excellence and leadership programs.
  • A student visa allows students to work for up to 20 hours a week during the semester and full-time during the holidays. This is a great way to earn money for meeting up the cost of extra expenses.
