Many students of Metropolia live in Hoas’s (Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region) apartments. A full time degree student in the capital area can apply for a room in a shared apartment, a studio apartment, a two-room apartment, a roomie apartment or a family apartment after being admitted to a school.

The affordable rent includes water and in some apartments electricity, too. In addition, there is a free internet connection and usually a common sauna and laundry room as well.

Hoas apartments are situated near campuses or within good public transportation connections in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen. See the locations of the properties on a map

There are several Hoas properties near Metropolia campuses, for example:

• Arabia Campus: several properties in Toukola, Kumpula and Viikki. Great public transportation connections from further locations, too.
• Karaportti Campus: Juusintie property in Kauniainen very near and several properties in Kilo and Leppävaara. Good connections from Kiltakallio and Kirkkojärvi, too.
• Myllypuro Campus: Several properties within quick and easy connections. Check out at least Mellunmäki, Kivikko, Kontula, Kurkimäki, Itäkeskus, Pukinmäki and Malmi.
• Myyrmäki Campus: Three properties in Myyrmäki. In addition several properties in Malminkartano, Kannelmäki and Hakuninmaa.

Placement

The student carries out the work placement under the guidance and supervision of the university of applied sciences and the employer according to the training objectives of each degree programme. The institution assists and guides the student to complete the training process successfully. Health Care and Social Services have their own specified practices on how to carry out the work placement (clinical practice) and how to find the placement.

However, generally it is the student's responsibility to search and acquire the work placement. Taking an active role, such as making a plan for the job search and getting in touch with employers, often leads to a good result.

Job and placement ads directed especially to Metropolia students can be found in the Metropolia intranet OMA and Jobiili, the joint employment service of the Finnish universities of applied sciences. With your Metropolia e-mail address you will also be able to access the JobTeaser career portal, jointly used in various higher education institutions around Finland. In JobTeaser, you can find job ads and a lot of tips for career building and job search tailored for international students.

We all need people who can make a difference: We deal with a wide variety of challenges every day. For some of us, they revolve around more humane care for the elderly, while for others they’re about tackling the profitability issues of a company with data automation, reducing traffic emissions, or developing more sustainable clothing to replace fast fashion. Whether our aim is to make everyday life easier or curb the climate crisis, we need fresh approaches, new ideas and innovations and brave experimentation. At Metropolia, we want to be the platform for all these.
