Liberal Arts at Sussex is an evolution of the arts, humanities and social sciences into a new kind of degree. If you want a hands-on degree that will help you make a difference in the world, this course is for you.
Our teaching is challenge-led. How can we spot fake news? What is the future of democracy? How do we tackle climate change? Our goal is to empower you to find solutions to complex questions and global challenges.
We offer interdisciplinarity and choice. Experts from a wide range of departments and subjects teach our modules. On the course you will:
engage with big ideas and real-life challenges
learn life skills, work skills and creative skills
have opportunities to gain experience with industrial partners and engage with our community as well.
Liberal Arts at Sussex is curated and coherent, introducing you to different kinds of knowledge to address issues that affect us all. You will also add your own choice of options to your course.
You’ll develop academic skills like essay writing and research. Your practical work may include staging media campaigns, recording nature or pitching policies to think tanks. Your independent projects could involve community organising or staging an exhibition. You’ll graduate with a multitude of passions, experiences, interests, and skills.
You will also have the option to apply to go on a term or year abroad with a Liberal Arts college in Japan, the US, Thailand or the Netherlands, or to apply to go on a placement year.
