Law and Criminology go hand-in-hand. The criminal justice system – the development and delivery of the law – is inextricably linked to criminals, victims of crime and the many different professionals who interact with them.
On our LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology degree, you will examine how the criminal justice system works, what causes people to commit crime and the impact of their behaviour on others. You will graduate with a Law degree which meets the academic requirements for qualification as a barrister (Bar Standards Board compliant), but also provides essential knowledge for students aspiring to be solicitors. Amongst an attractive array of modules, you can choose vocational subjects tested in the Solicitors’ Qualifying Examinations (SQE) - such as Business Law, Wills and Estates, and Property Practice - providing you with a gateway to professional training to become a solicitor.
At Bangor University, we bring your studies to life: with mock trials; internal moots; visits to law firms, judicial institutions, and government; guest talks from police officers, practising lawyers, legal experts, and specialist law firms; and an annual careers fair. Extra-curricular activities from our active student-run Law Society include the popular ‘LawSoc balls’ and trips to law fairs.
Studying Law and Criminology gives you a greater appreciation of modern-day law, the reasons behind criminal behaviour, the causes and effects of crime and its impact on future prevention and punishment. It also provides a broader education, which can expand your career options on graduation too.
The Law (LLB) degree at Bangor University is more than a pathway to becoming a solicitor or barrister; it’s an opportunity to explore the contemporary legal issues that shape our society. Our modern curriculum reflects the dynamic nature of law, providing you with a thorough understanding of essential legal principles and preparing you for diverse and rewarding careers both within and beyond the legal profession.
