Our IET-accredited MEng in Electronic Engineering is a four-year integrated master’s degree delivers the breadth and depth of knowledge to become a Chartered Engineer. It offers the additional practical experience and more specialised skills needed to successfully lead and manage dynamic and diverse engineering projects and teams.
In the third and fourth year, you’ll be able to tailor your studies to match your interests and ambitions. Optional modules allow you to specialise in broadband comms systems and mobile communications, for example, or enterprise design and modelling.
You'll join a research-led teaching environment, studying alongside academics at the forefront of digital signal processing and 5G technology and the design, manufacture and integration of opto-electronic and material technologies. Our staff are actively helping to reduce development times, improve performance and deliver better products within a variety of advanced and high-value manufacturing industries.
We offer four undergraduate degree courses in Electronic Engineering, leading to a BSc (Bachelor of Science), a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or Master of Engineering (MEng). This four-year integratged MEng Electronic Engineering, a three-year BSc (Hons) Electronic Engineering, three-year BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering, and four-year BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering (with Foundation Year).
This MEng Electronic Engineering is fully accredited by the IET as meeting the Engineering Council’s UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). The additional year of focused postgraduate study fulfils the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, whereas the BEng leads to Incorporated Engineer status.
On the BEng, you can still go on to achieve Chartered status with further experience and/or training. The MEng, however, allows you to study to master’s level without having to go through a separate master’s application process and with undergraduate fees and financial support set up from the outset.
Our MEng is also recognised by Engineers Europe, formerly FEANI, a federation of professional engineers that unites national engineering associations from 33 European countries. On successful completion of the course and as a member of the IET, you can register with Engineering Europe for the title of ‘EUR ING’, a guarantee of competence for professional engineers wishing to work in Europe.
