The department was founded in Seoul when the university was reformed into a modern comprehensive university in 1953 after the Korean War. It later moved to Suwon with the establishment of the Natural Sciences Campus in 1978. The Department of Chemistry is committed to cultivating high-level specialized personnel in diverse areas to serve as the foundation for national scientific technology advancement, while implementing key scientific technology tasks and policies with the aim of elevated research capabilities as a world-class research institution.
