The Department of Architecture at Ajou University leverages its exceptional faculty, efficient lab and lecture facilities, and diverse educational resources to provide specialized knowledge. In line with the university's globalization goal, the department also continuously shares international expertise and the latest information. Specifically, to cultivate highly specialized architectural professionals, the department offers two majors: Architecture and Architectural Engineering. The Architecture major focuses on architectural planning and design for creating a human environment, while the Architectural Engineering major focuses on architectural structure and construction management. Each possesses its own unique academic and practical identities, yet they are organically interconnected to provide each student with the optimal professional education.
The Architecture major, based on a comprehensive understanding of the human living environment, studies and designs the living environments associated with buildings and cities. It offers a five-year, accredited architectural program that meets the educational standards of the International Union of Architects. The Architecture major cultivates architectural professionals in demand by providing practical knowledge that can be directly applied to diverse theoretical and practical areas, including architectural planning and design, urban planning, urban design, complex planning, real estate development, building facility management, and architectural environmental planning.
The Architectural Engineering major pursues creative ideas to solve various technical, economic, and social problems related to buildings, the primary living spaces of humans, and other urban structures. Since 2005, the Architectural Engineering major has been operating a systematic architectural engineering education curriculum and has been accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education in Korea (ABEEK), an internationally recognized educational accreditation system. The program offers a four-year specialized architectural engineering program focusing on building construction and management, architectural structures, and the built environment. To keep pace with the changing landscape of the architectural industry, the department is expanding its curriculum to include areas related to architectural convergence, such as real estate, project financing, finance, BIM, and construction IT. As architectural engineers and technicians, the department cultivates architectural professionals equipped with systematic, integrated thinking, creative technical capabilities, and practical problem-solving skills.
