The Environmental Design major is based on the needs of social, economic, technological, and environmental changes and sustainable development in the era of ecological civilization; it is grounded in the development strategy and vision defined in Xiamen University’s “Construction Plan for a World-Class University”; it leverages the educational resources of both the Chinese and foreign partners in this Sino-foreign cooperative education program; it capitalizes on the opportunities presented by the nation’s comprehensive focus on urban and rural environmental construction and the booming prospects of environmental design. Leveraging Xiamen University’s multidisciplinary advantages as a comprehensive university, it has established a training model that combines international design theory with China’s development practices; a training philosophy that integrates professional learning with social service; a cross-disciplinary, broad-based, and application-oriented curriculum; a faculty team that combines self-cultivation with talent recruitment; and a world-class teaching and research platform.
The Environmental Design major closely follows the forefront of disciplinary developments and extensively engages in international and domestic professional exchanges and university-industry collaborations. This program aims to cultivate high-caliber research and application-oriented talents with an international perspective, advanced creative concepts and innovative capabilities, forward-looking academic perspectives and interdisciplinary research abilities, solid professional skills and good hands-on abilities, strong teamwork spirit and fluent bilingual expression; capable of creatively designing with their professional knowledge, and able to effectively apply innovative concepts and professional skills in interdisciplinary research and practice; and able to adapt to the actual needs of contemporary society and economic development, engaging in environmental design and related research and practice.
