This department nurtures professionals in marine biology through basic and advance education courses of marine biology, and also plays a major part in the development of the fisheries industry.
Given that our specific goal is to ’nurture intellectuals for marine life industrial development in the 21st century’, we teach basic and applied studies of various aspects of marine biology, including ichthyology, invertebrate zoology, maritime phytology, animal physiology, embryology, maritime ecology and fisheries biology. In short, we focus on the education of marine biology that is necessary for students to learn about the efficient development, preservation and management of marine resources.
Moreover, we have established a general graduate school (Department of Marine Biology) and an industrial graduate school (Biological Resources) to train professionals who can enter applied areas in the industry, as well as academics and researchers in fisheries and marine biology.
For this systemetic education and research, we run seven research centers for each area of study (fish and seashells research center, an ornithology research center, a genesis reproduction internal secretion research center, a marine ecology research center, a molecular physiology research center and an ichthyology research center) and have various experiment chambers such as refrigeration chambers, low temperature chambers, incubation chambers, constant temperature and humidity chambers, biometric chambers, microscope chambers and photograph chambers.
