The Korean Language Course at Sun Moon University (offered through the Sun Moon University Korean Language Institute) is a structured, intensive Korean language program designed for international learners who want to improve their Korean proficiency and deepen cultural understanding. The Institute has been teaching Korean and culture since 1989 and has educated tens of thousands of students from over 150 countries, many of whom have gone on to study at Korean universities or work professionally in Korea.
The regular course runs in four semesters each year — Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter — with each semester lasting about 10 weeks and consisting of 200 hours of instruction (typically 4 hours per day, 5 days a week), covering core language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students are placed into appropriate levels ranging from beginner to advanced, and the curriculum uses the university’s own textbooks to ensure consistent learning.
Beyond the regular curriculum, the program offers extracurricular and after-school classes — such as Taekwondo, TOPIK preparation, conversation practice, and other practical content — to help learners apply Korean in real-life situations. Cultural experiences like Korean cooking classes, volunteer activities, and participation in local festivals are also part of the program to enhance cultural understanding alongside language learning.
NOTE: The university may have additional program-specific eligibility requirements. It is recommended to verify these on the official university website.
