The Master’s in Media Design at the Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (commonly known as KMD) is an interdisciplinary, practice‑based master’s degree that aims to cultivate “media innovators” and creative leaders capable of envisioning and designing new media, technologies, systems, and experiences that address real‑world challenges. Students engage in project‑oriented learning, collaborating with faculty, industry partners, and peers on “Real Projects” that combine elements of design, technology, management, and policy to produce innovative prototypes, strategies, and solutions. All new candidates begin with a Crash Course to develop foundational creative skills and then participate in workshops, plenary presentations, and collaborative research that feed into their master’s thesis, where they synthesise practical work with academic inquiry. Courses cover a broad range of topics across design theory, digital technologies, service and interaction design, media innovation, management strategy, and policy, allowing students to tailor their education to their interests while gaining hands‑on experience in media design research and innovation.
