The Master’s Program in Agricultural Engineering and Socio‑Economics at Kobe University’s Graduate School of Agricultural Science is a two‑year, research‑oriented degree designed to address global food security, environmental sustainability, and the socio‑economic aspects of agricultural systems. The program integrates technological engineering and socio‑economic analysis to systematize processes across the agricultural value chain—from agricultural infrastructure, water and land resource use, and machinery for cultivation and processing, to food distribution, consumption, and economic policy that supports sustainable agricultural communities. Students can choose to focus on either the Division of Agricultural Engineering, which emphasizes technical and engineering solutions related to agricultural production systems, or the Division of Food and Environmental Economics, which emphasizes economic theory, policy analysis, statistics, and socio‑economic issues of food, agriculture, and the environment. Through advanced coursework, interdisciplinary learning, seminars, and supervised research, students develop analytical, technical, and socio‑economic expertise to contribute to sustainable food systems in both public and private sectors, culminating in a master’s thesis based on original research.
