Human Geography at Henan University is an academic discipline within the School of Geography and Environmental Studies that focuses on the spatial patterns, behaviours, interactions and development of human societies in relation to their environments. It explores how people and communities shape—and are shaped by—social, economic, cultural and political processes across different places and regions. The programme covers core topics such as population and migration, urban and rural development, economic and cultural geography, regional planning, human–environment interactions and geographic research methods. Students learn to analyse the causes and consequences of spatial phenomena using both qualitative and quantitative tools, including field surveys, spatial data analysis and geographic information systems (GIS). Through coursework and research, the programme cultivates critical thinking and problem-solving skills for understanding contemporary issues such as urbanisation, regional inequality, cultural landscapes and sustainable development. Graduates are prepared for careers in urban and regional planning, policy analysis, community development, environmental consultancy, education and research in government, non-profits, the private sector and academia.
