Program Description

  • Master of Law [L.L.M] at the Law School, University of Toronto is offered a 1-year (2 sessions) program.
  • It is a course-based and thesis-based program, offered on a full-time basis.
  • The LLM program at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law offers a flexible and rigorous full-time academic program for Canadian and international law graduates seeking opportunities for advanced study and research. 
  • This program focuses on a diverse range of areas like:
    • constitutional law
    • international human rights and law
    • economics, and legal theory
  • The thesis-intensive format allows students to elect to write a thesis of between 4 and 16 credits, written in combination with some coursework.
  • The faculty offers concentrations in the area of Business Law, Criminal Law, Legal Theory, and Health Law, Ethics, and Policy within the LLM degree program. 
  • During the academic year, offers a program in Canadian Legal Methods and Writing for students who are new to Canada and common law.

  • The LLM, MSL, and SJD programs are not designed to be taken part-time.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Law with at least a mid-B (75%) standing in the final year from a regionally accredited institution or a comparable degree from an international institution is required to be eligible for this program.
  • Furthermore, students should have obtained a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or equivalent in the last 60 semester hours (approximately two years of work).
  • Students must be qualified in IELTS or TOEFL to get admission in this program.
Indian Student Eligibility: Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
  • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Completed a master’s degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
