The Master’s in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) is a full-time graduate program, usually structured over two to three years and aimed at developing advanced expertise in the composition, structure, properties, preparation, processing, and applications of materials that are foundational to modern technology and industry. The discipline explores theoretical and experimental aspects of materials science, covering areas such as electronic, magnetic, optical, thermal, mechanical, and biological functional materials, and integrates advanced measurement, testing, and simulation methods as well as design and processing technologies for modern materials. Students are expected to gain a strong foundation in the principles of materials behaviour and engineering, systematic professional knowledge, and experimental skills, and to have an awareness of current research trends and frontiers in materials science and engineering. They are trained to use computers and relevant simulation software, master experimental techniques, and conduct independent research, culminating in a master’s thesis and defense that demonstrate their ability to analyse complex materials problems and contribute original insights. Research orientations within the program include fields such as electronic information materials and devices, materials genome research, electronic films and integrated devices, new energy materials and devices, printed electronics and related technologies, and organic functional materials engineering—reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the discipline and its connection to electronics and information technologies. Graduates are prepared for careers in scientific research, materials design and development, testing and quality control, manufacturing technologies, and related roles in high-tech industries, research institutions, or for further doctoral studies; international students typically must meet Chinese proficiency requirements and may defend their thesis in English where permitted.
NOTE: The university may have additional program-specific eligibility requirements.
