The KAIST Graduate School of Medical Science and Engineering (GSMSE) is a specialized graduate school established to train interdisciplinary researchers capable of leading advancements in 21st-century biological science, medical science, and medical engineering. The program is open to licensed medical professionals (including those in dentistry and traditional Korean medicine) as well as prospective or current graduate students with bachelor’s or master’s degrees in science or engineering.

Students who complete the medical science and life science track will have the ability to analyze the root causes of various diseases at the molecular level. With these skills, they will pave the way for the development of new treatments and the discovery of novel diseases, thus contributing to the realization of a healthier and longer-living society.

Graduates of the medical engineering track will be equipped to apply fundamental medical knowledge to the development of diagnostic/therapeutic technologies and medical devices.

GSMSE fosters interdisciplinary collaboration by engaging with faculty from other KAIST departments and inviting professors from domestic/overseas medical schools as adjunct or visiting faculty. Furthermore, by promoting active research collaboration, GSMSE plays a central role in pioneering new interdisciplinary fields in medical science and engineering.
