The Master's in Instrumental Music: Accompaniment is an advanced graduate program that focuses on developing professional collaborative pianists and accompanists with exceptional performance, interpretation, and ensemble skills. The program emphasizes piano accompaniment for instrumentalists, vocalists, choirs, opera productions, chamber music ensembles, and other performance settings. Students receive advanced training in collaborative performance, score reading, sight-reading, music interpretation, rehearsal techniques, ensemble leadership, and performance practice. Through intensive individual instruction, masterclasses, recitals, and collaborative projects, students refine their artistic and technical abilities while gaining experience working with a wide range of musical repertoire and performers. The program prepares graduates for careers as professional accompanists, collaborative pianists, music educators, ensemble coaches, performers, and researchers in the field of music.

Requirements

An applicant should be a (prospective) bachelor’s degree holder or be deemed to have an equivalent educational background according to applicable laws and meet one of the following qualification requirements.

a) An applicant who completed primary, secondary, and tertiary education in foreign countries (equivalent to all of elementary, middle, and high school and undergraduate school) and earned a bachelor’s degree at an accredited university or is expected to earn a degree by February 2026.

(For example, in Japan, individuals who are expected to complete their bachelor's degree by March 2026 can apply.)

※Those who are expected to earn a Bachelor’s degree in July 2026 or later cannot apply for the program.

b) A defector from North Korea or a foreign national whose parents are also foreign nationals are eligible to apply. Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from a domestic or overseas accredited university or is expected to earn the degree by February 2026.

※ Those with multiple citizenships or no citizenship are not deemed as foreigners.
