Home

Shannon College of Hotel Management was founded in 1951 as Ireland's first designated college of hotel management. Since 2015 it is fully incorporated into the University of Galway. The college was founded by Brendan O'Regan and is based in Shannon Airport, County Clare. It was set up with input from Aer Rianta.

Accommodation

Accommodation for Year 1 student is located in Castle Gardens at Bunratty Village. Each student house has three bedrooms which consist of two twin ensuite rooms and one twin room with an adajacent bathroom. The acccommodation is fully equipped with all the necessary domestic applicances. Due to increase demand for places in recent years, there will be 6 students per house. This allocation will be made through random selection.

The accommodation at Castle Gardens is managed by Rent and Irish Cottage MGMT Ltd. This is a private company that manages all aspects of the accommodation.

Bunratty Village is located approximately 8 km from Shannon College and the College organises a bus to transfer students to class each morning.

The Shannon College of Hotel Management and University of Galway Accommodation Office are providing assistance to their Year 3 and Year 4 students in their search for appropriate accommodation in houses, apartments or flats around the Shannon area and environs from September to May. Placement

The BBS and BComm feature comprehensive placements at operative and trainee management levels. The emphasis on practical training (in Year 1) combined with comprehensive placements is essential for the development of the students’ skills in leadership, teamwork, personal organisation and attention to detail; all of which are vital for their role as future hotel managers.

Work Placements at Shannon College are:

mandatory (every student must complete work placements in order to progress to the next academic year and graduate)

required to meet comprehensive learning outcomes
located in one of our 100 hotel partners
spread across 16 countries worldwide

Shannon College of Hotel Management was founded in 1951 by Dr Brendan O'Regan (Irish Businessman) and is the country’s only dedicated hotel management college. Shannon College is based in Shannon International Airport, County Clare and offers two Level 8 Business degrees, five postgraduate programmes, and a range of executive education and short programmes.
