Apartments in Finland are more affordable than in many other European countries. Student apartments are well-maintained and often situated close to the city center or within the reach of public transportation.
Although the demand for student housing varies depending on the city, the general rule for getting an apartment is first-come, first-served. You should start looking for an apartment right after receiving your residence permit. The biggest demand for student apartments is always at the beginning of each academic year.
When you start looking for housing options, first familiarize yourself with the accommodation instructions in your university’s arrival guide. Most university towns have student housing foundations that have an online booking system for new students. These housing foundations offer more affordable apartments than you find on the private market. In addition, student housing is often located within a convenient distance from the campus.
If you don’t get a student apartment by the time of arrival in Finland, don’t be alarmed. You can find temporary accommodation from student hostels for the first weeks of your stay. Meanwhile, it is important to stay in the queue for the student housing and wait for the apartment offer. If you would prefer an apartment from the private market, these are always available throughout the year. However, the rents are somewhat higher than in student apartments.
In case you are unable to find student accommodation and are already about to arrive in Finland, you can book temporary accommodation. Other options for finding accommodations:
Forenom is one good option – their apartments are suitable for short-term living and are fully furnished. In case you want to get an apartment at Forenom, please contact us at Edunation – as Forenom’s partner, we can offer lower rental prices for our incoming students! Forenom operates in all major cities in Finland, but not in the smaller towns.’
Airbnb is also a good option for finding a room or an apartment for a few days or weeks until you find your own apartment. Airbnb has private rooms and apartments all around Finland.
Satakunta University of Applied Sciences is a high quality teaching university of applied sciences in Finland, measured by the average score of the 2010–2021 feedback surveys (AVOP). SAMK has been ranked the first four times during the period, most recently in 2021.
AVOP is a feedback survey in which students evaluate and give feedback on the education they have received. The results of the survey are used both locally in the development of the HEI’s own activities and nationally in the guidance and funding of education. The questionnaire is completed by all graduating students at universities of applied sciences.
