Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Melbourne Technical College known as RMIT University is a public research university established in 1992. It is located in Melbourne, Australia. It is a global university with campuses in Melbourne, Vietnam and Barcelona. The University is the largest tertiary education institution in Australia. The University has a total student population of over 84,000 students of which 30% are international.
RMIT provides admissions to undergraduate, postgraduate and vocational training programs and has become a pioneer in the field in less than 50 years. The University is a dual-sector institution as it provides pathway programs that lead to vocational courses and help in earning undergraduate degrees. - The University provides purpose-built on-campus residences through apartment complexes designed in a student-friendly environment.
- The apartment complexes are located in the city of Bundoora, Carlton, and Melbourne city close to RMIT campuses.
- Students also prefer to live in a private rented house or apartment. Rented properties are generally not well furnished and the rent excludes the cost of utilities that the student might incur.
- Living in a share house is an option that is generally the cheapest housing option, making it a popular choice for students. In a shared house, students will typically have their room in a rented property, with shared use of the kitchen, bathroom, and other common areas.
- Students can also choose to live in hostels that usually have furnished lockable rooms available on a sharing basis. Hostels may or may not provide meal plans.
- Homestay is another option where students live with a local family, couple, or individual. ‘Full board’ homestay usually offers a furnished room and access to shared facilities with meals and utilities included.
