International students enrolled in a full-time course have the option of choosing between university accommodation (owned by University of Melbourne) and residential houses. Undergraduate and exchange study abroad students are guaranteed a place in university accommodation. However, graduate students are also encouraged to apply.

  • Students have to submit a separate application to apply for accommodation. 
  • You have the option of selecting 3 to 5 accommodation preferences. 
  • No application fee is charged as of now. 
  • Once allocated a room, you are required to confirm about the same within 48 hours. 
  • Weekly rental charges for University of Melbourne accommodation ranges between 200 AUD to 800 AUD.

University of Melbourne Scholarships for Research Programs

International students commencing graduate research or doctoral program at Melbourneare eligible for various scholarships such as Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Actions, Jesuit Scholarships and Bursaries at Newman College, and Newman College Rector's Exhibitions - Research, etc.

However, there are two University of Melbourne Scholarships designed specifically for research students.

  • Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships
  • Melbourne Research Scholarships

The eligibility criteria and application requirements are similar for both scholarships. Furthermore, recipients of both scholarships will receive a 100% tuition fee remission (up to AUD 110,000).

Apart from these, the university also offers a limited number of research scholarships in specific-subject areas. For instance, Melbourne Human Rights Scholarship (2 scholarships) are awarded to the students pursuing graduate research in the field of Human rights. This scholarship worth up to AUD 94,200 is offered to only full-time students.

Sports Scholarships at University of Melbourne

University of Melbourne believes in recognizing and awarding the achievements and potential of non-academic students as well. This is why the University of Melbourne scholarships also include sports scholarships for international students.

For 2020, the university is offering two sports scholarships to international students:

  • Friends of the Sports Association Scholarship (12 scholarships), valued at AUD 8,000 is awarded to the students who become a member of Melbourne University Sports Club and represent the university at various sporting events.
  • High-Performance Sports Scholarship (8 scholarships) worth AUD 9,000 is given to students who represent the university at a senior national team level or equivalent. Students must also be a member of Melbourne University Sports Club.
