The university was established by the late Reverend Dr. Kim Gil-Chang, a pioneer of Christianity in Korea. The university was originally called Kyungnam Teacher's College and established in 1955 under the ideals of Christian love and service, In 1979 the school was re-organized and renamed Pusan Industrial University.

Kyungsung Nuri Dormitory offers a place where students can enjoy educational services and have a comfortable student life while studying. The first 15-story Nuri Dormitory was established on January 2006 that can hold about 778 students, and second 15-story Nuri Dormitory was established on February 2015 that can hold about 620 students.
