Wuhan University (WHU) is a prestigious public research university located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. It is one of China’s oldest and most respected institutions of higher education, directly administered by the Ministry of Education. WHU is part of China’s elite university development initiatives — the “985 Project”, the “211 Project”, and the “Double First-Class” initiative, which aim to build world-class universities and key disciplines.
Founded in 1893 as the Ziqiang Institute, the school went through multiple evolutions and was officially named National Wuhan University in 1928, becoming one of the first national universities in modern China.
