Shizuoka University was inaugurated on June 1, 1949, following approval on May 31 of the same year for the university's establishment through the unification of five educational institutions: the former Shizuoka High School, Shizuoka Normal School and Shizuoka 2nd Normal School , Shizuoka Normal School for Youth and Hamamatsu College of Technology.
Subsequently, the university absorbed Shizuoka Prefectural College of Agriculture , moved to its present Shizuoka and Hamamatsu Campuses, and by undertaking the reorganization and enlargement of its faculties and other educational departments, assumed its present form. In the years to come, the university will continue to make efforts to upgrade and enrich its structure.

Shizuoka University is a national university in Japan with a strong reputation for engineering, informatics, and science, offering high employment rates for its graduates, particularly through its specialized Asia Bridge Program (ABP).

Notes

Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport (FSZ) is the closest airport (approx. 39 min) to Shizuoka University. Take a 56-minute, ¥1,100 Shizutetsu bus from the airport to Shizuoka Station, then use local buses or taxis to reach the Oya campus. Alternatively, Haneda Airport (HND) offers faster train access via Shinkansen (approx. 2-2.5 hours).

From Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport (FSZ):
- Bus: The most direct route is the Shizutetsu Bus, which takes around 56 minutes to reach Shizuoka Station.
- Taxi/Car: Approximately 39 minutes, located 26 km away.
From Haneda Airport (HND):
- Train: Take the Keikyu Line to Shinagawa, then transfer to the JR Tokaido Shinkansen to Shizuoka Station (total time: 2–2.5 hours).
From Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO):
- Train: Take the Meitetsu Line to Nagoya Station, then transfer to the JR Tokaido Shinkansen to Shizuoka Station.
